Joining forces with the Japan Music Copyright Association (JASRAC) to enhance the identification accuracy of JASRAC-managed songs on YouTube

JASRAC – Japan Music Copyright Association – has joined forces with BMAT Music Innovators to enhance the identification accuracy of JASRAC-managed songs on YouTube.

Accurate identification of music usage is crucial for UGC services to improve distribution to rights holders and music creators. This is particularly crucial on distribution platforms dealing with a vast array of songs and video posting services that generate content through various secondary uses and derivative works.

The use of audio fingerprinting technology, which identifies songs based on waveform data created from sound sources, has proven to be one of the most powerful tools for music identification and is widely embraced by broadcasters and digital service providers.

JASRAC has previously signed a licensing agreement with YouTube to use their “Content ID” system for distribution to music creators, publishers and other rights holders. JASRAC has now decided to rely on leading audio fingerprinting technology providers for the remaining unidentified works.

Consequently, JASRAC has appointed BMAT to employ cutting-edge audio fingerprinting technology to enhance the accurate identification of a wider range of songs on YouTube.

We are thrilled to share our recent collaboration with JASRAC. Our partnership is not merely a business endeavor; it is a union of two entities that deeply value the principles of fairness, transparency, and unwavering support for music creators. Our advanced technology will enable JASRAC to navigate the complexities of the digital landscape, providing a comprehensive solution for tracking and managing their music repertoire on YouTube. In line with our broader mission, this partnership reinforces our commitment to empower collective management organizations globally.

BMAT works with over 100 Collective Management Organisations, out of which 9 are in the Asia Pacific territory, and the most recent one we’re happy to welcome aboard is JASRAC. We’re excited to employ our award-winning audio fingerprinting technology to enhance the accurate identification of a wider range of songs on YouTube, matching against our database comprising over 166.3 M fingerprints for songs and musical works across 254 territories.

We’re highly committed to growing and nurturing our partnership with JASRAC for the benefit of all Japanese music creators and rights holders.
